Midwifery is a profession that takes care of expectant mothers.  They provide prenatal care as well attend the birth. Postpartum care is also provided by them as well.In general midwives are not registered nurses but if they choose to become one then they can be and can do so. But they are regulated and governed.But what are the wrong things that people think of midwives and midwifery in general?

In general, the misunderstandings happen for those that do homebirths.  In my practice of helping women as a San Diego midwife, homebirths are where people get confused.People think that home birthing is an unsafe way of delivering a baby. But for low-risk pregnancy undergoing home birthing is very safe.Midwives also carry necessary medical equipments in case something unavoidable happens.And since the way they deliver babies is very safe most complications are avoided.

This is where the benefits come.  As some midwives in San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery.This kind of delivery involves no medicine while birthing.No medicine is administered to the mother during birthing.But not using medication to help ease the pain of birthing is a good thing since it makes the delivery happen faster.Because most mothers do not know the fact that taking medicines that help ease birthing pains actually slows down the delivery.So by not using medicines during labor the delivery will done faster than the normal delivery.

And when the mother decides to undergo water birthing more positive things can be benfited by both the mother and the baby. From doing waterbirth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery.The water relxes the muscles of the mother hence allowing an easy delivery. Plus the shock and stress that the baby undergoes during birthing can be reduced by being released into water.

As you can see there are misconceptions about midwives and their profession.But here’s hoping that people would recognize the safety of this method as long as the pregnancy is low-risk.And they also have a governing body.  So midwives do have to go to extensive schooling.  They understand medical procedures that may be needed.That is why mothers should not be worried about their safety since all necessary medical equipments are with the midwife.It can be a good choice for pregnant mothers who have low-risk pregnancies.
